WHAT KIND OF WINE IS ASTI SPUMANTE?
Asti Spumante = sparkling wine from the moscato bianco, white muscat grape, originating for instance in the province of Asti in Piedmont. Asti Spumante is usually made according to the tank method. The second fermentation takes place in a sealed tank. Then a wine with bubbles is created.
Asti Spumante is fruity, with the taste of muscat grape, and slightly sweet. Moscato d'Asti comes from the same region and is made from the same grape variety.
Moscato d'Asti sparkles less, tastes even more grapier, is usually sweeter and contains slightly less alcohol (around 6%).
