SCREW CAP ONLY
FOR CHEAP WINE?
In the past, the screw cap was only used for affordable wine.
The use of the screw cap for wine bottles arose because good, 'real' corks were scarce and therefore expensive.
The benefits of the screw cap were discovered during use.
ADVANTAGES OF THE SCREW CAP
TASTE REMAINS FRESH AND FRUITY LONGER
MUCH LESS CHANCE OF 'CORKING', WINE ERROR CAUSED BY USING BAD CORK.
EASY TO OPEN AND CLOSE.
For storage wines that have to develop in the bottle, many winemakers still prefer good genuine corks. These allow a minimum amount of oxygen through allowing the wine in the bottle to develop. A screw cap does not allow oxygen through and so the development will proceed much more slowly. Some people find a cork fancier.
